Cheapest Flight/Car Rental Option?

What is my best / cheapest option to rent a car for ~ 1 month in San Francisco? All the monthly rental car agencies are citing me ~$900, are there no other options out there?

  • Answer:

The best thing to do is to find the best rate you can, book it, and then track the rental at http://www.autoslash.com.com to see if they can find you a better deal.  You want to book a "Pay Later" rate or one in which you don't need to put in your credit card info and pay up-front. On the AutoSlash homepage, click on the tab labeled "Track a rental you've booked elsewhere".  AutoSlash will then analyze your rental and let you know when they find a better deal.  Additionally, after you're booked, AutoSlash will keep looking for better deals, and re-book you automatically if the price drops.  This is by far the easiest way to get the best deal possible on a rental.

A cursory interrogation of http://Kayak.com using "San Francisco" yielded a $566 quote from Hertz for a one month rental.  When using "San Jose," a $537 quote from Hertz was offered.  And "Oakland" generated a $541 quote also from Hertz. Note: It is important to use a city in your search argument versus an airport as your rental will not be burdened by airport and tourist taxes.  Taxing tourists is the popular option for politicians for generating revenue without upsetting the local voters.
