First, get the idea out of your head that there are no jobs out there. That defeats you from the start. You have to follow-up on your applications, so they know you are serious about working. Fast food places get tons of applications, but maybe only a handful of those applicants are eligible, or serious about actually doing that type of work. You have the two main skills to do the job, now get yourself out there and talk to a few managers...put your best foot forward and let them know you're the one they need. They don't know if you lack confidence, so show them you're not afraid of responsibility and hard work. Best of luck to you.

First, I recommend using a program like the JobFinder. I use it and you can get a better look at http://www.Motiont.com. It is a desktop application that searches all the job sites for you; you can apply for jobs, setup alerts, and more. I find it a lot easier and stressful than doing them same search over and over again on different sites (which can get frustrating). You mentioned that you are filling out applications. Are you doing these online or in the store? I recommend doing both. Search online but then also visit local retail stores that may be hiring cashiers or customer service people (which you have experience with). I think it will be easier to get a part-time retail job right now because a lot of stores hire extra work for the holidays. You may want to see if you can get even just a seasonal job like that right now. Then, I also recommend branching out. It sounds like most of your job experience is in retail, but your customer service skills can help you land an office job too. Good luck!

I know the feeling - I look at 35 different websites daily and have had very little success - just too many out of work & not enough openings for all. You may try (if not already) some temp agencies. Look online at the State, County, and Cities websites for employment openings
