Where should I take my Nursing Degree?

How many years does it take to obtain an associate's nursing degree?

  • Hello! I am thinking of going to a community college to obtain my associate's degree in nursing. My question is, how many years, on average, does it take? Does it take two, and ...show more

  • Answer:

I can't speak to circumstances in other places, but we recently researched options in our community for my daughter. Between the pre-reqs & the nursing courses, it will take 3 years (possibly more- I must say when I heard that, it really made me nuts. I am not sure I believe that, but they did tell us this.) to get the ADN. Pre-reqs up front, then nursing classes & clinicals. Exam (you mean stat boards, right?) at the end. No requirement about working as an extern & if you are going that route, you need to arrange it independently if there is a hospital in your community that does this. In our area, I don't believe that any hospitals offer an externship for ADN students. The other thing to bear in mind is - and you probably already know this - is that it is very competative to get into nursing programs right now. Hope that helps.
