Nursing is one of the hottest jobs here right now because there is already a nurse shortage and the demand is expected to skyrocket in the next 10 years as the baby-boom-ers get to retirement age. In California, signing bonuses (up front-before you even work a day) of $20,000. to $50,000. are regularly advertised to lure nurses into the smaller cities. If you enjoy helping people you'll enjoy nursing and your timing couldn't be better if you were in the U.S. I would think some of the same demand factors would be in place in the U.K. and Ireland even though our medical systems are vastly different. If I were in your shoes I'd go be a wallflower at a pub or coffeehouse near a hospital in your area for a weekend. You'd meet people and get the local lay of the land as well.
