Well, do you like any kind of clinical nursing period? If not, you'll want to avoid doctor's offices, physical assessments for insurance companies, working on oil rigs/job sites, or in correctional facilities, etc. If not, these are options. You may want to consider a public health nursing job that focuses on health promotion, immunizations, infant visits, etc. That is sort of a grey area, because there is still typically *some* form of clinical care. Some nurses become certified diabetes or asthma educators (patient education). These above roles all generally require a BScN and specialized training, so you may need to return to school. Again, there is typically an aspect of clinical care, but not nearly as much as a ward nurse in a hospital. Mental health nursing (case management for outpatients) is an idea, but I guess not a good one if you hated psych rotations. ;) My aunt in law graduated as a Psychiatric Nurse/RPN (we have these in Canada). She discovered she hated it. She actually went straight into counselling mental health patients in the community and never had to do ward duty! Another option is a research nurse. You work in the lab doing clinical skills or research, or you can process paperwork and be part of the screening team. Just some options! The unfortunate reality is that *most* new nurses must do *some* form of bedside care. It's really a part of the field that one must accept when they go into nursing. It's not a glamourous job! Bedside nursing is really the best (and only) way to get the experience you will need for managerial positions. Good luck to you!
