What steps do I take to become a police officer?

What are you interested in becoming? A highway patrol officer, county sheriff, city cop? I'll assume just a city police officer, to become one it isn't too difficult, but most departments accross the country require you to have a High school diploma or atleast a GED, to have a completely clean required (no felony convictions ), be in good physical shape, good vision..uncorrected vision must be no less than 20/40 in each eye. Also, you must possess a California drivers license regardless of the department. Contact your local police department or check their website for more details and information. If you want to be a county sheriff or a state trooper/highway patrol officer it'll be alot harder..physically and mentally, also to be a CHP officer in California you have to be atleast 20.

Always stay in good shape! Also, I think police academy is the first step.

find a college that offers criminal justice. or look into the highway patrol academy I went to school here in mn in the criminal justice field and its well worth it. Good luck to you

Police academy. You should go talk to several police departments and ask them what you need to do to get a job. Some departments will pay your way through academy
