What is the job of technical helpdesk?

What exactly is the job profile for IT HELPDESK-Technical Support& Service Management ?

  Since IT it so whacked out these days, it would be better for you to inquire about the help desk position. I work for a government IT department and the Help Desk simply direct the problem to the appropriate area... For example, if the report is the phone is dead and it working through an NEC switch, the help desk sends the report to telecom. If it's a voip phone not working or a computer, it goes to the IT department that takes care of that stuff. The business is crazy and every one thinks they know how it's supposed to work.... Ask, so you don't step into the wrong thing. If they tell you "If you have to ask you probably can't do the job", consider this, you probably don't need to work for people that make those kind of statements. In my mind: Software Development is a long way from the Help Desk, but remember what I said?
