  It means you will not get an hourly rate or salary. Depending on the job, it may mean that you get a small rate up front until you get fully trained then you go onto full commission. For some companies, like Car Max, if you don't make your "number" for the quarter, they have a "draw" system (think Loan) where you can get some basic compensation and then pay it back the next month when you do better. If you get fired for non performance you don't typically have to pay it back. OTOH, even a system that has a draw won't be very tolerant if you can't make the number and the commission. It's the toughest kind of sales but it also typically has the highest reward. Unless it's tele sales related. Hope that helps.
