Why do Computer Science and Engineering graduates get paid much more than their counterparts in other fields? (At least in India, for those from IITs, compared to other branches in their IIT) Can I count on this to last?

I am about to graduate from IIT Delhi. Someone who is pretty good can expect a INR 15L+ starting package in India if they are from CSE, but my friends from most other branches get less than half of this. Is it purely because of demand-supply? If it is, how long will the current situation last? Is it possible that things will reverse in the future (during the length of my career)? Is it because of the Dollar-Rupee conversion and companies like Google being able to easily pay high salaries? If this is the case, is it likely to change when (if?) India develops more?

Answer:
Human labor is priced like every other commodity, by supply and demand. High pay for US programmers has not changed in 50 years. Supply is limited by most people's inability to deal with logic. We have so many programming languages because failed programmers keep blaming the language and looking for one that will not make them "look stupid." Don't worry about India developing rapidly. China is the country you should worry about. They will pose a formidable threat if they switch from engineering to software. It would seem inevitable, but Japan never did. In the 1980s, when Japan was the world's manufacturing leader of consumer electronics, it outsourced most software development to the US. I know because I worked for the company that wrote software in the Sharp Wizard and Casio Boss. If you are lucky, China will outsource development to India.
