How much can I work while On SSI?

May i work with ssi & disability?

  • While in teh process of getting my Disability &ssi... can i work and if so how much can i make without it taking any money from my Disability & ssi checks when i start to recive them ?

  • Answer:

if you work it will be harder to get approved--especially is you make more than 720/month...which is the threshold for trial work period once you are approved... and after you make 85$ they start deduction 50% of what you earn.. and if you can work, you shouldn't be applying

It's not a good idea to work while you're trying to get disability. You can work after you receive it, but there are limits, and if you actually get disability SS will tell you what they are.

You should determine whether you are recieving SSI or Disability (SSDI) or both because the rules are different. For information on the rules and differences got to www.whatdisability.com in the Understanding Social Security section.
