Answer:
Simply add 1/2 cup white distilled vinegar to the wash. That will do the trick. Get the big gallon size. If you want to really insure that they are smell free add 1/4 cup of baking soda to the rinse with the fabric softener. Better detergents will help such as Tide. But the vinegar and baking soda will preform 100 times better with the Purex...far less expensive too.

Don't use baking soda in the rinse. It will remain in your clothes. If you want to use baking soda, use it in the wash cycle with your detergent. You have a couple things to try. First, I'd try the white vinegar. 1/2 c. would work well for small loads but for a full load, I'd bump it up to 1 cup. That goes in the rinse cycle. Your clothes will not smell like vinegar after then are dried. Or get some washing soda. It's similar to baking soda in composition but made for laundry. It boosts the effectiveness of your detergent. But you need to be using warm water at the minimum to help dissolve the washing soda and to help get the grease smell out. Cold just makes the grease fumes more "solid" and harder to get out. Washing soda is cheap but don't look for it in Walmart; for some reason they don't carry it. Most grocery stores do in the laundry products aisle. I'd think about switching detergents; I find Purex pretty worthless. I've tried 'em all and keep going back to either Wisk or All. Tide make me itch. For grease stains, try using some Simple Green. It's a concentrated cleaner that works great on grease! Just give the spots a good spray and let lay for an hour or so before you wash; overnight won't hurt a thing either. Just don't do washing soda and vinegar both. You might end up with a foaming mess. Remember how baking soda and vinegar foams?
