Yes, you can start homeschooling at any time. Contact your state homeschool organization to find out who you have to notify and what forms you might have to submit. It's usually pretty minimal and then you just have to abide by your state laws. In CA, you can either register as a private school or you can sign up with a charter school that oversees your HSing (I believe you get some state funds for supplies and classes you want to take if you go this route, but you have more oversight and rules this way too). Your local/state HS group can help you with the specifics. Good luck!

I don't like this because I've never seen a home schooled person climb up from their home and emerge from that protected environment and do well around a crowd. Don't get me wrong, I hope it works for you, but the AP courses and shared knowledge(which I do know about) aren't available to HS'ed kids. But, it's not my decision to make. I've spoken my opinion, and I hope that this works out.
