How to become homeschooled?

How do you become homeschooled?

  • My friend is really interested in becoming homeschooled, but shes not sure how to go about it. How do you get to be allowed to be homeschooled? The more elaborate the better. Thanks :]

  • Answer:

You have to be allowed, you may have to follow state regulations. I was partially private schooled. Partially public schools. Partially homescholled and partially unschooled.

The first thing you need to do is pull up a web search on accredited home schooling programs for your friends grade level. Request information from all of them and review it thoroughly. Also make sure to check out the program. Ask around about it, or check through the Better Business Bureau. Check out the books the programs are using. Some homeschool programs use really outdated material that is a hindrance to work with. See how much support the program offers. You need tutors you can contact with questions. Check your costs, and finally go for it. Send in the paper work and they will work with you to get you started. As far as allowing you to be homeschooled check with state policy, but it is usually up to the parent.

Simply put, she needs to talk with her parents, since they will become her primary academic teachers. Her parents will have to get the scoop on your state laws, http://www.hslda.org/ Then, depending on her age they will have to send a letter of intend to home school to either your local school district, or county school superintendent. In the meantime it would be wise to look at some curriculum's, or books to start with. A good web site with a lot of information on how to begin homeschooling, teaching methods, and curriculum is; http://homeschooling.gomilpitas.com/ Last but not least, try to find a local home school group to contact for information on what is being offered on a local level. Attending a State Home school Convention is always a good idea too.

When I wanted to become homeschooled my mom wrote a letter to the bord of education in my town saying that I wanted to be homeschooled. They said it was fine and I could start whenever we had a curriculum ready.

1. Go to web site for your state's laws. 2. Make sure you qualify and send in necessary paperwork. 3. Research curriculum if your state gives you a choice. Take your time in making a choice. Don't spend your money on fancy gimmicks that may or may not work. Find out what works for your child before making investments. 4. Get support from online group and local group. We homeschool people believe firmly in what we are doing and we are happy to help people who are wanting to do this for their families.
