What do I need to take for a train journey?

At 16 you should be able to travel alone on public transport. However you do need to understand the rules and have money to pay for your ticket. if you have got or are getting a railcard, then you must have it with you at all time when travelling on a discounted ticket as if you do not then you will be treated has having no ticket and you will have to pay again, the cost being the Full Adult Anytime Fare which is the most expensive.. Under no circumstances be tempted to buy a Child ticket as once you reach 16 you should be travelling with an adult ticket otherwise you maybe subject to prosecution or a penalty fare. There are plenty of Children that travel alone on trains from a young age, one of my friends has been all over the place and he was only 14 when I first new him.

Of course a 16 yr old can travel alone on a train. Lots of 11 yr olds travel to school every day by rail! The only thing you need is your ticket. If you bought the ticket with a railcard then you need that with you as well. If it is a long journey you might also find it useful to take your own drink, sandwich, etc, as they are expensive on trains and at stations. You might also want something to read.
