What is passive transport?

**Biology: active transport**?

  • #1. What is a major difference between active transport and passive transport? A. Active transport moves ions, while passive transport does not B. Active transport requires, energy ...show more

  • Answer:

1.) B (hence the ACTIVE transport--means it uses energy.) 2.) endocytosis 3.) part 1: Concentration gradient of passive transport is high to low. Active is low to high concentration. part 2: Phospholipid bilayer has a water loving, (hydrophillic) polar head and a hydrophobic tail. It is normally surrounded by water, and in passive transport molecules that aren't charged, small and aren't ions can pass without using any protein pumps and energy through the phospholipid bilayer. However for active transport protein pumps are embedded into the bilayer and facilitate molecules that are too big or charged to pass through. part 3: Same as above. The membrane proteins act as protein pumps or facilitated diffusion to help molecules get through. They help molecules who can't simply diffuse directly into the membrane.
