Answer:
If we are talking water pump impeller and you cant remember when it was changed you are due for one. it does get a little complicated . If you get a service manual you may successfully change it but pay attention to the procedure. If your confused you will end up taking it to a service department for them to complete job. Also you cannot test it when done running it on a set of water muffs .What you are doing is feeding it with water under pressure from the hose and even if you had a bad impeller it will think you are pumping water. A pump sucks the water so you need to have it in a bucket or the lower part of drive must be under water .Make sure the pick up holes are covered by water. Then start it and check little water pisser to see if its shooting water. Sometimes the pisser gets clogged with gunk and very little water comes out . If you have this after putting in new impeller while running take a small probe to pisser hole and clean it out.. If you know you have a good pump its ok to run it doing normal flushing or maintenance. But never rev your engine too high they are only designed for running at idle or maybe no more than 1000 RPM. Actually you should never run up rpms on any engine thats not under a load

First off, impellers are not repairable, but are replaceable. You must drop the lower unit down to replace it. You will find there is an insert the impeller rides in, and sometimes it also can be bad. To drop the lower unit requires some knowledge, and a couple of special tools. If you do this incorrectly, you can lose a power head real easy. That will most likely override the value of the motor. My point here is I believe you would be money ahead to have it done by a pro, or equivalent. If you feel comfortable with trying it yourself, see if you can rent, barrow, steel a book from an Evinrude dealer, or Library. Please be careful and get it in so it runs the right direction. Test it with water ears after you get it installed. Good luck!
