I have never seen anyone buying. Do they actually do some business?

I have. They had something on it that isn't sold in the country I was heading to.

I bought a travel adapter once, it was actually rather reasonably priced (though a couple of years later, I found a near-identical no-brand knock-off in a Malaysian tech department store)

I buy perfume and cosmetics. They are actually cheaper than in shops in town, and sometimes packaged "travel exclusive only". The great mini box make up sets are not available in city stores. I also bought a travel-exclusive necklace once, which is really great quality and I love it.
