How do I start the print spooler on my XP?

It's asking me to start print Spooler Service when trying to install driver for Lexmk X6150 on wins XP. Help

  • Answer:

Have you recently uninstalled another printer? The reason I ask is because there may still be services running even after the uninstall. Go into the registry and search for "lex" (no quotes) or the printer that you just uninstalled and delete every key that has that name... on reboot, the services will be gone, but so will your print spooler...which is the problem you are having it won't start. Now go back into the registry and search for "spooler" (again, no quotes) there should be 2 keys, HKLM/System/Services/Spooler & HKLM/CurrentControlSet/Services/Spooler, see if your uninstalled printer added a VALUE of "depend, LexBCE or whatever brandBCE..." delete those two values, restart, and your Print Spooler should be back.
