Answer:
That's actually not the case. They don't really treat American International students any differently than they do European, Australian, New Zealand, Japanese or Chinese students. The students that they want to attract are those that will definitely be going home following their studies, as there are too many student applicants from some other countries who apply for their Student Visa intending to stay illegally once their studies are finished. Many Canadian Universities offer MERIT based scholarships to a certain number of International Students. Canadian Scholarships are not as easy to get as they are at US State Universities, however, and a 4.0 gpa won't get you a full or even a half scholarship unless it is really a 99%. You can get a small entrance scholarship, however. You'd also need an SAT in the 2100 range at most Unviersities. And, it also depends upon what you plan on studying, as Canadian Universities are much more specialized (with the exception of the 4 largest). The top schools in Canada are: McGill - Montreal - you can get an entrance scholarship of up to $3,000 US, renewable, with the following for U.S. applicants: MINIMUM A average (at least 95% or GPA of 4.00, or equivalent) over last two years of full-time studies, and minimum score of 700 in each SAT or 33 in the ACT Univ of Toronto - Toronto - International students do not qualify for their main entrance scholarship, however, can apply for departmental and private scholarships http://www.adm.utoronto.ca/adm-awards/html/awards/in_course_ut_all.htm. International Tuition starts at about $27,000 per year plus $8,000 to $11,000 for dorm/food plans UBC - Vancouver - UBC has several high end scholarships available for any International student to apply for https://you.ubc.ca/ubc/vancouver/intlscholarships. International tuition starting at $29,000 per year plus another $11,000 for fees, dorm and food plans. You can check the websites of any of the other Canadian Universities to see if they offer International Scholarships. Just look under Admissions, International, or Undergrad International Fees.
