    You are getting bad reception because you don't have a good enough antenna. I have a big one outdoors but only have my LR tv on it. I have a cheapie converter box but the picture is beautiful and I receive all available channels. I have an antenna in the bedroom that came with the tv...er actually I emailed them and or talked to them and they sent me the antenna for my tv. It has a beautiful picture with el cheapo converter box. Then I bought what I thought an expensive antenna but one of the little ones but a better one at Walmart. The picture sucks and I can only get some channels. The moral of the story is that you need a better antenna system. I know that HD tv is brighter and clearer but I'm pretty satisfied with the two tvs and they are large ones but good color and nic pic. Since the HD tvs have a narrow picture I would have to get a really wide one to come close to the size of the pic in the LR. I'm just not spending a lot of $ to keep up with the latest technology until I need to do so. With the old set up I realize I have to cut off the sides of the picture but ....I'm really not seeing that I'm missing anything.

I'm not sure they still make analog TVs, but you should still probably check. Just ask if the new TVs are digital or analog. HDTVs can come in either, it depends on how old they are. If you get a digital TV you won't need a converter box.

A new HDTV may indeed help, (as it would be higher-quality merchandise). No converter box is need for HDTVs, as by definition they already are "converters". If you are daring enough to buy yet another "analog" TV, then for sure you'll need to use that converter box again. Keep that gadget in the closet, just in case. :)
