How to read long, dense articles?

Will people read white papers and long-form articles on mobile?

  I place white papers in a different category than merely long text documents. White papers are designed to educate readers to the viability of a particular business strategy or solution which can be achieved by a combination of both text and graphics. I envision a mobile version of a white paper as fitting somewhere between a presentation and an annual report, similar to the way that some websites have simplified their 'text-heavy' sites with a more object-oriented design that allows mobile users to drill-down and obtain greater descriptive detail.
