Can I use my Philippine passport instead of a US passport?

I have both us passport and Philippine passport.is it ok to use my Phil pport to travel Asia?

  • For tax and visa purposes, can I use my Philippine passport to get out of p.i and travel to Southeast Asia to avoid getting an entry visa to Singapore, kl, thailand and Cambodia?

  • Answer:

You must use your US passport - and only your US passport - to enter & exit the US. You need to use your Philippines passport to enter & exit Philippines. Anywhere else, you use whichever suits you. Obviously, a passport from an ASEAN country is better to use in another ASEAN country. "Tax purposes?" Beware! US taxes all income from all sources worldwide, and you are required to file annual US income tax returns. You are also subject to financial reporting requirements including FBAR of your foreign bank & other financial accounts, and Form 8938 to report foreign assets. Just because you are a dual national does not mean you don't fall under the IRS Tax Net. IRS is hunting down dual nationals, US-born non-residents, US expats working temporarily abroad, etc. Failure to file as required and failure to pay as required are both felonies. FBAR & Form 8938 have particularly draconian penalties for failure to file on time!
