Where's a nice (affordable!!) area to live in in the UK that's NOT South East Or london?

    I would like to say Brighton, as that is more south than south east. But it's only 50 miles from London, plus it's on the seaside! You can easily make friends in Brighton, even strangers. It's relatively inexpensive (not dead cheap). Good nightlife. People have parties all the time. I lived there for 5 years, and my depression was pretty cured by time I moved out! 20% of residents are students (plenty of universities and colleges). I have loads of friends there, so if you do choose to look at Brighton, let me know and I'll put you in touch with many helpers!

Pretty much get a pin and a map.... The only way you can realistically answer this question is to visit places around the UK for weekends and see where you might like to live.

Sunderland, great university and cheap housing

Try Bournemouth. It has a University. It is also a nice town with a good nightlife. It has miles of beautiful sandy beaches. It has lovely countryside on its doorstep. It should be a great tonic for your depression. It has good rail and road links to London, and SE if you want to go home for the weekend It's not particularly cheap but you might afford a flat share until you can afford to buy.
