Can I buy a ticket for a train?

When i buy a train ticket from a london station can i travel with the same ticket in any train in london?

  • is the ticket valid for just 1 journey or 24 hours?

  • Answer:

If you buy a day single or day return then its for one journey (in each direction if a return) on the day the ticket is dated. The ticked will in theory be collected at your destination (the machines do this automatically) and it may be punched or stamped by an inspector during the journey to show its being used. However if none of these happens you can do the journey again in the same day (but not 24hrs) If you buy a travel card you can use it for many journeys in the zones its valid for.

Other answers

It depends. If the ticket is show from LONDONZ123, then it includes the cost of a travelcard for zones 1, 2 & 3. If not, it is valid on trains between the two stations specified on the ticket only. There may be further restrictions to the ticket, so when you buy it, ask what these restrictions are. Alternatively, before doing so, try using the National Rail Enquires website: www.nationalrail.co.uk, it will show you train times and fares information, and will tell you about each individual ticket type shown.
