Libya exports oil largely to the European market. Perhaps that is why they are involved with this one. Yes dropping bombs on Libya costs alot but it would cost the UK even more so if they didn't hurry the conflict and get oil productions back on track.

The intervention in Libya is a big business, first they need to calm down the oil market, secondly department of defense keeps a lot people employed, there are all kinds of companies making arms, this is the time many countries want to take Gaddafi down for his connections and sponsoring terrorism. Certainly other countries could take responsibilities, but there will be a political setback at international level.
