What's the difference between a Medical Assistant and an LPN?

Whats the difference between a lpn an rn?

  • Like who make more an what the lpn do?

  • Answer:

I worked as an LPN in a hospital. The ONLY thing I could not do than an RN could was START a blood transfusion. I could hand second, third ,etc units of blood, but not the first unit. Many hospitals do hire LPN"s but most likely not on high specialty units such as ICU or NICU.

LPN= give out medince RN= does that and cleans wound and does more medically then a LPN do. Your best bet is to go become an RN due to more job opportunities, higher pay.

Short answer is that an LPN is below an RN. RN makes WAY more. RNs make 30-45 per hour depending on where they work in the USA. LPNs make about 20 or less per hour. LPNs spend time doing more of the hard labor and the grunt work such as dressing patients, washing patients, feeding patients, etc. RNs are there to give patients their medications and let the doctors know that their orders for each patient are being followed. LPNs basically assist the RN staff. They are nurses but do more of the undesirable work of nursing.

Educated

A licensed practical nurse works under the supervision of a registered nurse or a physician. A registered nurse has a higher education than a practical nurse, they may hold an associates degree, bachelors degree, or masters degree. A practical nurse must complete a short course that could be 12-18months long, it is equivalent to the first year of a registered nurse program. Both must pass a state test called the nclex(pn or rn) and get licensed by the state. Since registered nurses have a higher education and hold more responsibilities, their salary is higher. An lpn could become an rn through continuing education, this is the route that i chose. Wendy, lpn's ARE real nurses. Interesting how it is always the prospective nursing students who belittle us lpn's when they have no real life experience, or even school experience in nursing.
