Where can I buy a used wheelchair?

(20+ years as a wheelchair tech) The basic categories are standard (hospital grade), lightweight (looks a lot like a hospital grade, but lighter with some adjustability), and ultralight (looks like a sports chair, very light and adjustable.) It sound like you are looking for an ultralight, which is going to be tough. Standard and lightweight is far more common and are usually available cheap at thrift stores, etc. Ultralights are a lot more expensive (they tend to start at $2,000 while the others run about $200-300), are generally more fitted to the client, and tend to be used for longer. The other categories are often used for short terms and are a lot more common. If you have a good chair coming, I would just get something cheapo that fits decently and just live with it. It would also make a good 'mudding' chair for when you don't want to expose your nice chair to dirt or possible damage.

there are standard 'lightweight' chairs on ebay and craigslist......you have to keep looking...did you search within 25-50 miles of your home so it could be picked up? even lightweight is heavy! there are models that are ultra lightweight....such as titanium and a newer type that is even lighter.. also look for thrift stores you can't push a transport chair yourself---that is for when an aide or companion is pushing the chair.
