    ill go with what Rob A. said... just contact them and tell them i couldnt, but no they don't take off points. its just easier for them to read... didn't you use a pen all year in ur class for the DBQs and FRQs? it should have said it on the exam...they didn't say we should clearly but on the back in the "At a Glance" section it said blue or black ink don't worry about it what matters is the essay you wrote =) especially if it was a good one ps: what was your DBQ question? mine was slavery and how it progresses and declines at the same time

My teacher told my class today that the reason why they have you write in pencil is because as your essays get shipped all over the country, then marks smears again the box/envelope/whatever it's in. So, I don't think your graders will mark you off....but your essay may have been smugged so badly that they won't be able to read it.

definitely contact collegeboard on that one. They won't want you to use pencil because of cheating, changing words and what not.
