Fishing gear needed for shark fishing?

  • Whats the basic gear for fishing for large sharks, like the biggest, and how much does it cost on average? Also, ive heard of a 1.25 ton hammerhead caught. What kind of line and reel ...show more

  • Answer:

Wait, you still have to ensure you're cleared to land sharks wherever you're fishing. There are local regulations which restrict or prohibit spearfishing certain types and species, even on open waters. Specialty shops should recommend the speargun, line, and reel type you'll need. Try smaller prey for the meantime, like bass or trout, before you go for larger (and more dangerous) varieties.

Are you talking land/pier fishing or from a boat? From land your're not gonna land a shark over 8 foot without a whole lot of experience. From a boat an Avet TRX-30 spooled with 130# braid will put a world record hammerhead in the boat. Around $600 for the reel and $150-200 for the line. Plus the 130# class rod of your choice. Starting at $200 for an ugly stik, a lot more for. anything more than entry level . BTW the unofficial World Record for a Hammerhead is only 1280lbs, still waiting to be certified. But there's lots over 1000 in the Keys during the tarpon run.

forget about it, i've been shark fishing since I was 18, unless you 5000+ you wouldn't be able to even catch a 100 pounder, and for giants 10000 plus.
