How to hook chunks of homemade catfish bait for fishing?

What is the best way to fish for catfish when they are hook shy (barely biting without hitting hard)?

  Are you sure it is catfish? I'm not an avid catfisherman, but I never recall catfish nibbling at my bait, like bluegills and what not will do. When I get those little nibbles, it is almost always turtles messing with the bait. Sometimes bluegills will do the same thing, though. If it is catfish nibbling at it, I'm honestly not sure what to tell you; unless you have little ones nibbling at a massive glob of whatever bait you're using. If you think that is the case, you may want to downsize your bait a bit.
