How can I get porcelain veneers?

Can I get porcelain veneers with an NHS dentist?

  • How much do they cost per tooth?

  • Answer:

Yes of course you can. They cost around £90-100 per tooth. Please remember that your dentist is only able to provide them if they are clinically necessary on the NHS. Purely cosmetic work is not provided on the NHS and your dentist may get his wrists slapped if he does. Also I wouldnt be expecting any fantastic results as seen on makeover programmes. They can look very good on the NHS and I have done many that have turned out beatifully but remember that these people are paying thousands per tooth! If you didnt already know, the maximum patient charge in Scotland for NHS dental treatment is £384. If treatments costs more than that, the NHS picks up the remainder.

I would like to think that the veneers that I place are as good as anything private. It depends on the lab that the dentist uses and the dentists skill. Cost here in Scotland is £82.44 for the first tooth and £76.52 per tooth thereafter up to the maximum stated above. It depends why you want the veneers and how many you need. if it is just for mild aesthetics then I wouldn't bother. But if you have a specific problem then they may be a solution.

I asked my dentist this question yesterday after he stuck a lump of gold over my scabby tooth! (back one thankfully). Veneers are only done on the NHS if they are absolutely necessary and you have got to beg and prove they are necessary, as the poster said above they won't be anything special. I asked about having them done privately and they would cost about £200 per tooth. My teeth are quite bad but i have to lump it as I don't have £1400 to get my 7 visible teeth sparkly. Good luck though.

No. The only way you will have this done on NHS is if you have had an accident and they have chipped. If it is for cosmetic it will be private. They are about £400 each. You usually only have the front 6 veneered. However they do look amazing if you get it done at the right place. Good Luck
