    I use spray vegetable fat for separator - like PAM but usually store brand. Getting a hard cast out of a plaster mold can be tricky, depending on the shape of your face and how easily it came off. Normally you would use plasticine oil moistened modeling clay for sealing any holes, like in the nose for breathing and eyes if you left openings. You may want to check for flaws in the mold - edges of fabric, etc., and smooth them over also. The directions in the first answer are but normally a couple of others are added to mixing PoP including using a screen or strainer to sift the plaster powder into the water to get even soaking. 2:1 Plaster:Water is usual, by weight, but humidity may make it vary and the idea of adding powder until it mound up above the surface is to let the density of the already dampened plaster tell you when you have added enough. Letting it stand for several minutes is called slaking, to get all the particles wet.
