Best home theater setup.

What would be the best home theater speaker setup?

  • what would be the best speaker setup for my home theater? i want the best sound i can get in a price range of around $1500

  • Answer:

You can get a solid setup for less than $1,500. But we need to know what you have already. For a good hi-def home theater setup you need the following: + HDTV + Receiver + Surround sound speaker set + Blu-Ray player I assume you have the TV already. There are a lot of good, affordable Blu-Ray players out now. I recommend the PS3 ($400) if you're a gamer. If not then get a Panasonic DMP-BD35K ($250). That's the best low-cost stand-alone player on the market. You need a receiver with HDMI capabilities. I recommend the Onkyo TX-SR606 ($350), but anything similar will do. The good thing about the 606 is it has 4 HDMI-in ports and it decodes all HD audio formats. Buy the Panasonic 35 decodes the audio, so that particular Onkyo may be overkill. Now all you need is a good set of speakers. In my opinion, the best bang for buck speaker set out there is the Polk Audio RM6750 5.1 home theater speakers. They have great sound for movies, they're high quality, they are attractive and take up very little space. Also, for the price ($200) they are an absolute steal. They're on par with speakers that cost three times as much. Don't forget the speaker cables ($30, Monster, Philips, anything 16 guage will do), the subwoofer cable, speaker stands if you need them ($50) and a wireless rear speaker kit (Rocketfish, $95) if you need one. Oh, and don't forget all the HDMI cables ($50). All said and done, you can do it for around $1,000. P.S. Bose sucks.

I was determined to buy a Bose lifestyle...after much research...I bought a Denon AVR888 with KEF speakers, and a Sony BR DVD player for less than the Bose lifestlye with acoustimass speakers. That's the cheaper Bose speaker system. To get really good sound from Bose you have to buy the more expensive Jewel cube speakers for almost a grand more. My entire setup was just over 1600.00 I will admit, the Denon is not the most user friendly HT receiver, but you learn the system after using it a while...I'm very pleased with it. The KEF speakers are fantastic, but there are many speakers in the price range of these,( 900.00 on sale,), that are just as good. So, I can't really say what the "best" would be. Do research and use your ears, and watch for sales discounts.
