How do I get a recording off my time warner cable DVR to my computer?!?!?

    You can back them up using a usb flashing or unplug the hard disk and plug it into the computer. In order to transfer files from your DVR unit to a thumb drive, you will need to insert a USB flash drive into the front USB port in your DVR unit, and then reboot your DVR unit. Sometimes, the DVR will not read your USB drive if the DVR is not rebooted. Please go to the 'Record Search' menu from the Main Menu in your DVR. Once on the Search Screen, please enter the date in which the incident took place. Press 'Search' in the upper middle section after entering the date, this will highlight each day of that month where recordings took place. Next, please click on the day of the month in the grid that appears. Once you have clicked on the date, click on 'Detail File.' The Detail File screen will show a list of all recordings, and you have the option to select any number of files. From here, please select the file that you wish to back up, and then select 'Backup.'

You can't. DVRs are carefully designed to not allow you to get anything off them. Back in the early days of DVRs there was a company called Replay TV that made a DVR that stored everything in MP4 so you could download programs to your computer and burn them to DVD, but there were big lawsuits against them and they went out of business. Our DVR allows you to attach a USB hard drive to store more stuff, and it has to format the drive itself so you can't move it to your computer.
