How do I connect an av receiver to my tv?

How to connect samsung led tv to a ordinary home theater 5.1 surround sound without using an AV receiver is there a way to do it?

  • Answer:

Without knowing which piece of crap cheap all-in-one system you are using, this cannot be answered. Throw out the cheap garbage, and spend a few bucks to buy something DECENT. $400 would be enough.

I figure your 5.1 system IS an A/V receiver. It sounds as if you want to take the audio out from the TV and connect to your sound system. There are a host of ways. The most primitive: to use L/R audio out from your TV to your "stereo". Optical audio or digital coaxial would work, perhaps, if not on an older sound system. Best choice: to employ HDMI connection. This affords you 5.1 reproduction.

Keep in mind that your tv only provides you with an optical audio output. This is a digital signal that carry a multi channel sound encoded by Dolby Digital. This output has to be connected to a multi channel receiver or a home theater in a box with an optical audio input or a sound bar. So, if you only have the speaker of 5.1 with the receiver, you are not going to hear any sound. The tv owners manual will provide that information for you. Hope this will help you out.

you check what kind of audio output teh tv has, and what input that home theater thing has, and if they match you buy a cable for it.
