How do I add contacts to BBM?

I just got a blackberry, and I'm really confused on how to add contacts on bbm. ?

When I ask people, they say click on "add contact". But on my bbm it doesn't say add contact. It says "invite contact". So I click on that, and I enter ...show more

have you got the monthly blackberry data plan added, its needed to use bbm and all other blackberry services like apps world etc, if you have, remove battery with phone on and replace, this may activate it, if that doesnt work then call service provider.
