Is Wordpress the best CMS for a news website, even if the site receives constantly live stats through different feeds?

    That's a loaded question.  WordPress runs some of the largest websites in the world and almost 20% of the Internet worldwide.  It can do as much as you need if it has the right amount of resources on a solidly coded website (theme and plugins).  If your site is constantly crunching feeds you'll want to have a lot of RAM and CPU at your beckoned call, but that would be the case for any CMS (not just WP).

Yes :-) Wordpress can handle this no problem.  It all depends how much processing is required.  I'd suggest using caching to reduce repeated calls for offsite feeds: there are plugins which allow syndication of almost any .xml or other format feed. The benefit of using wordpress is you can create a site like this with minimal custom coding (unless you have highly specialised requirements). Even if you need to move to a custom PHP solution later (eg because the number of feeds is too great), its great to create the site first in WP to test the concept or plan the layout etc.
