How do you clean a printers rollers?

What is happening when inkjet printers start up?

  • When most inkjet printers are switched on, they spend a minute or so starting up. The ink-cartridge carriage moves back and forth at odd intervals and the rollers start and stop rolling. The whole process seems pretty cumbersome. What is actually going on?

  • Answer:

When Inkjet printers start up they go straight into "Cleaning Mode". Basically the printer moves the print head back and forth on the carriage and pumps all of your valuable ink out the print head and into the sponge waste pad located below. This process is automated at start up to keep the microscopic holes in the print head free of old ink which if left over a long period will dry and clog the small holes in the print head itself. That's why I recommend Canon Printers as the thermal print head is more forgiving and wont clog easily as do all other printers using the piezo print head. That is where most of your valuable ink gets wasted, not in printing but in keeping the print head clean.
