Is it difficult to get a job, if you are an economist?

How can I get a job at The Economist?

  • I have a Master's degree and blog here:  http://globaltradeissues.wordpress.com/

  • Answer:

Apply for one of our internships. The Richard Casement science internship is open at the moment, and the Marjorie Deane business/finance internships run over the summer. It's the most common route into The Economist for people who are not already experienced journalists. When applying, bear in mind that the thing we look at most closely is the sample article you provide, written in Economist style -- not your CV.

Tom's answer is right when it comes to editorial positions (which sounds like what you are most interested in) but it is worth pointing out that The Economist Group employs people in all kinds of fields - IT, app development, sales, HR, conference organisers, researchers for the Economist Intelligence Unit, etc etc. A full listing of all current vacancies is always available here: http://www.economistgroup.com/working_with_us/job_opportunities/index.html
