How would I become an animal behaviorist?

How does one become a animal behaviorist?

  • Know anyone who is in this profession? I would love any information! Thank you very much!

  • Answer:

Animal behaviorists typically come from one of two academic disciplines, zoology or psychology. In zoology, the field is called ethology; in psychology, its called comparative psychology. The two areas approach the field from slightly different perspectives. Ethologists tend to follow a European bent represented by Konrad Lorenz and others while comparative psychologists are influenced by the American behavioral tradition. When I took my graduate course in comparative psychology I was fascinated by the many ways different animals navigate from point to point.
