You need to be able to study at degree level and to evidence this through either having A-levels (subjects like Biology, Psychology or Sociology are good, but it's not that important) or a foundation course in Health and Social Care. Most importantly, you need to demonstrate that you are caring, good with people, can think analytically, and understand that as well as a lot of nice bits, these jobs can be very stressful and sometimes sad. Sorry to your daughter but you have to be at least 17 to train, let's hope she's still interested in 11 years! Funnily enough I wanted to be a nurse at about that age, then I did work in midwifery for a while - but now I work in a very different field.

A level or equivalent, as with any university degree course. Diploma courses are being phased out, won't be around in a year or two.

Candidates must have three A Levels to do a degree in Nursing. There is also a diploma route which I think also requires A Levels. One of the A Levels must be a science. I think 18 is the earliest age to be able to commence training and six is somewhat young - even for a smart kid!
