If a teacher is fired at the end of the year can they file/receive unemployment even if they get a fall job?

You mentioned he was fired and then that he was laid off - those are two entirely different situations. If laid off, a person is eligible to sign up for unemployment but if fired because of some infraction, he can't collect unemployment. Now, as far as teachers collecting unemployment during the summer - I'm not sure if they can do that. I do know they have the option to spread their salary out over 12 months rather than just receive a larger amount for the months they actually teach (approximately 9 months) as this makes it easier to budget throughout the year - and that's why I'm unsure about teachers and unemployment if he gets a job for the fall. Sorry I can't be any more sure of what might happen for him.

As the previous poster wrote he is eligible to collect. There is a 7 day (1 week) waiting period and the benefit begins the following week. Upon his return to the workforce and he receives his first check he should no longer apply and advise them he has secured employment.
