How do I search for an off-campus job in India?
-
I am a final year undergraduate student at IIT. Seeing the current scenario of the placements, I think I should start searching for jobs off-campus. Please shed some light on the ways with which I can search jobs off-campus.

Answer:
Here is a tried and tested way to secure employment off-campus: 1. Make a very good LinkedIn profile and add it to you GMail signature. 2. Make profiles on Naukri.com and Monster.com 3. Regularly apply on sites like www.iimjobs.com and www.toptalent.in Using LinkedIn, try to expand your network and contact people working in companies, you want to apply at. Sites like Naukri and Monster will help you reach to out hundreds of employers looking to recruit IITians and there will be definitely some HR company who will hunt your resume down from them for recruitment somewhere. Sites like iimjobs and toptalent will help you narrow down on jobs that are exclusively open for elite institutes.

Step 1: Leave all the company portals, websites etc.. Step 2: Make a list of all the possible companies you might want to join Step 3: Go to linkedin (the best I know) and find someone already working for them, pereferably your first/second connection. Step 4: Call them and ask them to make a referral. Step 5: Follow up with them for a possible interview.

Hello, Seraching for an off campus is not so tough as it has been hyped!! It you fail to get the job in the campus interview then worry not, there are various ways!! Each way is different from the other one! One can not sit and rely only on the one method! These different ways can give you different results each consuming different time. There is no specific way to find the job, in fact there are various way like trying through newspaper advertisements,radio/television ads, keep in update with the company, but most in demand these days are the online job portals and consulatant comapnies giving the gurantee of getting jobs. There maybe many job consultancies in India, some fake, other reliable! But its tough to differentiate between the both!! What is best for the current scenario is try some online job portals like http://www.ragns.com like which is reliable and helps you find your dream job suiting your job profile in your preferred location with your expected salary! Over there, you just have to upload your resume in order to-get your dream job after engineering! you can subscribe for the job alerts which will help you get the job as soon as the companies are in need of!! There are various jobs available in the electrical engineering field!! Before you apply for the one, try going through the reading material so that it becomes easy for you to crack the interview!!

There is no short-cut for entry level job search. Of course you need to update your profile on all job portals as well as on Linkedin. Also joining http://Freshersworld.com : Freshersworld would really help you as they are exlcusively for off-campus jobs. Also its not a bad idea to pursue some short term courses on technical subjects to keep you uptodate with the skills. All the best.
