Help tips on being a good hostess at a restaurant? First time job like this?

  I was a hostess/waitress at Olive Garden for 2.5 years. They trained me right off the bat, so if this is a reputable establishment then yes, they will train you. My advice is this: SMILE A LOT. Welcome the person to (Fill in the blank) restaurant as soon as he/she walks in. Hold the door open for them. Once you get to know the clientelle, remember their names and greet them by name when they come in. And most importantly, pronounce their name right when you call that their table is ready! I had more people upset when I would mis-pronounce the name than when we missed them on the list. Poeple get offended for some reason, so learn to pronounce their name correctly. When they give it to you to write down, don't be afraid to ask them to repeat it and spell it so you get it right. Good luck with your first job!!!
