How to become a Nurse Practitioner?

How do I become a nurse practitioner?

  • If i get accepted into a bachelor of nursing degree, can I continue for a masters to graduate as a nurse practitioner?? How long does it take to become a nurse practitioner? Please ...show more

  • Answer:

Most also require that you work a few years as a RN first--check out that requirement to factor into your plans-before you can apply to NP school. To go straight through, there is no way you can assimilate that kind of info with out some practical, hands on experience.

Diane is correct, you will need at least a year or more of work experience as an RN before any grad school will accept you to an NP program. What kind of NP are you interested in? Try to get at least a year of work experience in that specific area, for example, if you want to be a Pediatric NP, get a job in peds, it will be better on your application, shows you are dedicated to that specialty. You shouldn't rush into grad school anyway - you really should be sure the track you are choosing is the right one for you, because it would really suck to get part way through and decide you'd really rather be doing something else. Good luck!

Take A Test!

Yes that is the exact path you would take to become one. Nurse practitioner programs are about 2 years in length. Some schools need the GRE to be taken, and you need a good gpa in your undergrad to be admitted.
