What is the process of becoming an RN?

Wondering how the process works for becoming a RN? Also wondering about what your duties include as an RN?

  • Do you start with a CNA and work your way up (which is what I would like to do)? Or do I have to get into a nursing program and stick with it until becoming a RN? I'm just not ...show more

  • Answer:

Well here in Ohio, you have to go to Nursing school (2-4 years) to become an RN. But to become and STNA (or CNA), all you have to do is do a 75 hour state approved training and then take the Nursing assistant test. To become an LPN here, there is a nursing school that offers a 46 week class. I'm starting out as an STNA and eventually, I will work my way up.

All of the nursing degrees should be available in those areas, but what you would be allowed to do would vary. You do not need specific training but certifications are available in these specialty areas that may give you an advantage. You can start as a CNA and work as you continue classes or go straight for a nursing degree. It is really up to you and your life and finances.
