  Hi, I'm not a doctor, but have worked as a medical coder for 14 years. I studied with Allied Medical School many years ago and had a great experience. They offer a comprehensive, online curriculum that prepared me to take the AAPC exam. I finished my studies in about a year. Once I found a job, I honestly felt totally prepared from the get-go. No matter who you choose for your education, you should really look for two main things: make sure that the school is accredited and that you are prepared to sit for a certification exam, such as that offered by the American Academy of Professional Coders. In terms of accreditation, don't take the school's word for it. Check with the U.S. Department of Education to verify that the accrediting organization is recognized. Best of luck to you!
