I was looking into nursing as well but now am deciding on becoming a occupational therapist assistant(OTA) It pays really good and a huge demand like nursing but without all the hoops you have to go through to get into a nursing school. Also you can be a OTA in 2 yrs. My sisters friend just graduated from Keiser University and she passed the OTA exam and got a job offer starting at $37/hour.

Well i am going to a two year college this summer and starting my prereques so maybe i can help. ~Prereques Anatomy(4 units), physisology(4 units), microbiology(4 units), english 1(3 units) and a teas score of 67% or higher.(These must be completed prior to APPLYING to the program and you must have a B or higher in there classes. A Withdraw stands as an F and will be weighted against your GPA.) ~Coreques Communication 1, or 4, or 8/psychology 1/sociology 1, or anthropology 1 or nursing 106(These are recommended to be completed prior to entering nursing program. I would recommend you get a B or higher on these to) ~Additional Requirements General Ed Humanities/ Goverment 5, or history 17 or history 18/ Math competency-math 230 or equivalent (These are also recommended to be completed prior to entering the nursing program. Also get a B or higher on these. The Prereques, coreques and additional requirements can be completed with in a year or two depending on if you take summer school or not. The lowest GPA the nursing program i am going into accepted last semester was a 3.2. ~Nursing School -Semester 1 Nursing 161 - Maintaining Optimal Wellness (11 Units) An introduction to the elements of patient centered care based on the nursing process, emphasizing assessment and the older adult. Introduces nursing program threads: caring, safety, psychomotor skills, critical thinking, communication, teaching, growth, development, adaptation, and legal, ethical, and professional nursing. The progressive themes of the nursing program are applied through the nursing process to attain the client's optimal well-being. Semester 2 Nursing 152 - Promoting Perinatal Wellness (4 Units) This course is completed during the second semester of the Registered Nursing Program. It consists of study and application of theory to clinical care of the childbearing family, including maintaining and promoting optimal wellness. It includes concepts of perinatal care. The progressive themes of the nursing program are applied through the nursing process to attain the client's optimal well-being. Nursing 153 - Promoting Pediatric Wellness (4 Units) This course is completed during the second semester of the Registered Nursing Program. It consists of study and application of theory to clinical care of the pediatric client and family, including maintaining and promoting optimal wellness. The progressive themes of the nursing program are applied through the nursing process to attain the client's optimal well-being. Nursing 154 - Promoting Mental Wellness (4 Units) This course is completed during the second semester of the Registered Nursing Program. It consists of study and application of theory to clinical care of the psychiatric client. It focuses on promoting optimal mental wellness and restoration of health. The progressive themes of the nursing program are applied through the nursing process to attain the client's optimal well-being. Semester 3 Nursing 155 - IV Skills (.5 Units) This course is completed during the third semester of the Registered Nursing Program. Students will acquire the knowledge and skills to assess the client for intravenous therapy, to initiate intravenous therapy and to maintain intravenous therapy for clients across the lifespan. Students are required to identify five volunteers upon whom to practice these skills in the nursing skills lab. Students will spend a portion of the laboratory time in a clinical setting applying these knowledge and skills on actual clients. Nursing 163 - Promoting and Restoring Optimal Wellness 1 (9 units) This third semester nursing course is a study of intermediate medical-surgical nursing principles and clinical skills which assist adult clients in promoting and restoring optimal wellness. Client care occurs in a variety of acute and community settings. The progressive themes of the nursing program are applied through the nursing process to attain the client's optimal well-being. Semester 4 Nursing 164 - Promoting and Restoring Wellness 2 (8 units) This fourth semester nursing course is a study of complex medical-surgical nursing concepts to promote and restore wellness in complex clients. In the clinical laboratory, students will increase skills to promote and restore optimal wellness. The progressive themes of the nursing program are applied through the nursing process to attain the client's optimal well-being. Nursing 166 - Leadership and Management (3 Units) This is a study of the leadership/management role of the Registered Nurse to provide integrated, cost effective nursing care to clients by coordinating, supervising, and collaborating with members of the health care team. This course includes theory concepts and laboratory experience. Then once graduated apply for job and take the NCLEX to get RN lisence.
