Answer:
Generally you have to wait a month after signing up with your new insurance before you can actually use it. Insurance companies do that to cover their end. Depending on your insurance they will give you an effective date in which will begin your coverage starting on that date. It is usually the first of the month so plan on waiting at least a month before it becomes effective. Good luck.

perhaps if you ask the personnel director at your place of employment (or whoever is in charge of the health insurance program) they could inform you both of the cost to be deducted from your pay as well as how long you have to wait for coverage to begin. If this is perceived to be an anxiety issue, please be sure to ask what is covered. Sometimes that type of issue is only partially covered. Mental health issues as opposed to physical health issues are handled differently. Good Luck.

Once your employer submits your enrollment form, you should be able to go to see a doctor. Your HR department can verify the date you will become effective with your new health insurance by speaking directly with their broker. Once you have that date verified (and if it's not a future date), you can go to the doctor, even without your card. You'll have to get your member ID from your new health plan, (you can call them to get it) and once you do that you're all set.

you have to read the policy...most have exclusions for preexisting conditions, or big deductibles (stuff you have to pay for before the policy kicks in.) Is it possible that the action you need to take is self analysis? Maybe take a yoga class?

As soon as you sign up ask your human recources manager when it is effective. I know what kind of situation your in i can get insurance through my employer as well but it is too expensive and even if i just need a prescription it is impossible.

You would be able to visit a doctor as soon as your work insurance became effective.
Use someone else's medical ID. Immigrants do it all the time. Tough times require tough decisions.
