  As far as injuries go, the person could have been poisoned. (As I was. The person could have been a victim of some sort of emotional/psychological trauma that caused them to become non-verbal - the person probably does still have the ability to speak, but because of severe trauma they don't speak. They might speak in certain situations, and not at all in others, or they might not speak at all. It's called Selective Mutism. Also, the person could have some kind of a speech disorder.
